deriv fast kyc verification

Identity checks (KYC) are where most new traders get stuck: rejected utility bills, blurry ID photos, and days of waiting. Deriv now lets you verify your address with your phone’s location instead of paperwork, and its ID check guides you through photos step by step. Here is how to get verified fast, and what to do if it fails.

The short version

  1. ID: choose your ID country and type, then follow the guided photo steps.
  2. Address: tap Turn on location, then Allow, and choose precise location. Deriv fills in your address.
  3. No location match? Upload a proof of address document instead.
  4. No documents in your name? Deriv accepts a certified affidavit of residence. Download a blank affidavit form (PDF).
  5. Verify early: you need it before your first withdrawal.

Time needed: the location check can finish in seconds; ID reviews take minutes to a couple of days.
Works on: phone or laptop with a camera.

Why KYC Matters

KYC (know your customer) is how brokers confirm who you are and where you live. Every legitimate broker asks for it, and Deriv requires it before you can withdraw. Doing it on day one means your first withdrawal is never held up.

Part 1: Verify Your Identity

  1. In the account setup (or later under your account verification settings), choose the country that issued your ID.
  2. Pick the ID type: passport, national ID, or driver’s licence.
  3. Follow the guided photo steps, and a selfie or liveness check if asked.

Tip: Photograph the whole document with all four corners visible, in good light with no glare, and make sure the name matches your profile exactly.

Part 2: Verify Your Address With Location

Deriv’s location based address check replaces utility bills for most people. On the Verify your address screen, tap Turn on location, then Allow when your browser or phone asks, and choose precise location. Deriv detects and fills in your address automatically. Using a VPN or a fake location will cause it to fail, so switch those off first.

Our guide on how to open a Deriv account shows this screen with screenshots.

Part 3: Alternatives if Location Does Not Work

Upload a proof of address

If your current location does not match your registered address, use the option on the same screen to upload a document such as a utility bill or bank statement dated within the last few months.

Affidavit of residence

If you have no documents in your own name, for example in shared housing, Deriv accepts an affidavit of residence. It should include your full name, national ID number, residential address, a recent issue date (not older than six months), and the stamp and signature of a Commissioner of Oaths or police officer.

Common Problems and How to Fix Them

Location verification failed

Turn off any VPN, allow precise (not approximate) location, and make sure location services are on in your phone or browser settings. Then try again or use the upload option.

My ID was rejected

Read the reason given. It is usually a blurry or cropped photo, an expired ID, or a name mismatch. Fix that exact issue before retaking the photo.

Verification is taking a long time

Some checks go to manual review, which can take a couple of days. Contact Deriv support through live chat if it takes longer.

What to Do Next

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast is Deriv verification?

The location based address check can complete in seconds. ID checks usually take minutes, sometimes up to a couple of days if reviewed manually.

Do I still need a utility bill?

Usually not. Location verification replaces it for most people. You can upload a document if location does not match your address.

What if I have no documents in my name?

Deriv accepts a certified affidavit of residence with your details, stamped and signed by a Commissioner of Oaths or police officer. You can download our blank affidavit form (PDF) to fill in.

Can I trade before verifying?

You can use the demo account and start setting up, but you must verify before you can withdraw.

Why did location verification fail?

Most often because of a VPN, approximate instead of precise location, or location services being switched off.
